Brothers/Pledges in Attendance: Dave Tu, Brian, Jim, Aaron, Dan R., Kyle, Josh, Emily, Ben, Erica, Paul, David P., Michelle
Convened with soy sauce…
President:
1.Dave said some words of appreciation for each individual officer. Amazingly, Jim has not yet killed Dave…
2.An unfortunate pamphlet was discovered.
3.A long discussion ensued on the topic of chapter motivation, which led to thoughts regarding improvement to chapter programs with this objective in mind. Summaries of ideas presented are below.
MOTIVATION:
1.To a degree, there seems to be an absence of the sense of brotherhood, or bonding between brothers. As occurs frequently, this is in part due to the interference of personal issues between brothers, but that alone does not likely justify the change that has occurred this semester.
2.There haven’t been a lot of “big” events lately, with the exception of Overnighter, which did give chapter motivation a boost. Tying into this point, there seems to be a small core of exceptionally active brothers who can be seen at most events.
3.It might be beneficial for ECOM to work extra hard to invite brothers to events, with the intent of increasing attendance and creating a fuller social atmosphere. More social events may exhibit promise for tying up some loose ends within the chapter.
4.The suggestion was made that APO pursue increased cooperative efforts with other organizations on campus.
SERVICE:
1.First off, tying into the lack of motivation but not addressing it, there exists an issue with some basic aspects of our service program falling apart a bit. To an extent, LAF runs and office hours, among other things, are not being committed to as they should.
2.Some suggestions were made as far as events go, including an increase in the number of major events (i.e. requiring cooperative planning), more on-campus projects, the reinstitution of a “Freshman Survival Guide” publication that APO used to make awhile back, and the planting of a new APO tree. Also discussed were the potential plusses and drawbacks of making LAF auctions occur campus-wide.
FELLOWSHIP: The only suggestion for this program (which applies to the service
program as well) was that brothers in general become more active in creating “spontaneous” events, i.e. random movie nights, etc. As long as said events don’t conflict with anything on the calendar, they are unlikely to pose any problems or infringe upon SVP and FVP territory, and could help foster a more informal, open atmosphere.
Officer Reports, continued…
SVP: Jim is considering a push to obtain test file donations from campus.
MVP: Some upcoming pledge class events:
1.4/15: Olympics @ 5pm
2.4/16: Frear Park, 1-4pm
FVP: Nothing to report.
Treasurer: BX Income is slightly low from a historical standpoint. Kyle is looking into why…
RecSec, CorSec, Historian, SAA, & OM: (Stunned Silence)
Old Business: MMOC…it’s STILL coming…Josh will have a signup sheet in the office soon for a variety of roles by which you can help. Also note that help with postering will soon be sought and appreciated. Additionally, Josh is looking to see if he can convince the mayor to run…
New Business: The destination for the money raised for tsunami relief has yet to be decided upon. Kyle will bring this up at the next brotherhood meeting. In his opinion, OxFam looks to be the best choice.
Announcements:
1.The possibility of donating DTC books to places in need of them is being investigated. Other chapters are similarly involved in such a program.
2.BX is done. Thanks to David P. for helping out. :-)
3.Some books have gone missing and we don’t know why.
