ECOM Meeting Minutes: 1/23

Convened at 7:10pm exactly. Right on the money. w00t

Brothers Present: Dave, Jim, Josh, Kim, Kyle, Paul, Erica, Brian, Ben, & Tommy

President:
1. Um…where’s the gavel?
2. Goals for the Semester
a. President: Dave aims to improve membership, bonding, etc. Finishing food at meetings is also a priority.
b. SVP (Um…this seemed like an officer report to me, but that’s cool too): Congrats to Ben, our new LAF chair! Jim is still hunting for a Test Files chair, however. Two events are tentatively scheduled for 2/19 and 2/27, one of which will likely be Food Bank. Also, J.J. has donated $22.83 to the chapter. It will be added to our service budget.
c. MVP: Josh hopes to have 5+ pledges this semester. He would also like to work on brother retention. Not the harpoon kind, though. At least not yet…
d. FVP: Have Fun!
e. Treasurer: Kyle seeks to keep the books in balance, update the treasury software with Alyssa’s help, and smite all who dare let their CDs go negative. Also on the list: contacting alumni for chapter donations, and reevaluating the utility of the vanguard fund.
f. RecSec: A RecSec has no goals; a RecSec needs no goals. Those who apply do so for a dreary existence of meaningless scribbling, constantly yearning for the day when they too will find a purpose in life. Yeah, I could say the usual things like, “I’m going to get the minutes out 4 seconds after the meeting ends,” or “I will ensure that the MOB chart is time-optimized for our fraternal e-Business under my newly developed set of 783 testing standards,” but let’s face it people, none of that’s going to happen, and even if it did, no one would care. If you’re reading this, I pity you, because it means that you’re almost as utterly bored as I was when I wrote this; you feel a tremendous void in your life that cannot be filled. Okay, so maybe I’m exaggerating. Fine, it’s an outright lie. You got me. I’ll shut up now…
g. CorSec: Erica seeks to create a timely newsletter, and to obtain contributions from as many brothers as possible. She would also like to expand PR, for which a chair has been appointed. Incidentally, those are the first two initials of the chair.
h. Historian: Brian would like to limit the number of inevitable problems that will be encountered on the road to making the composite. He also wants to get a handle on the Archives. Congrats to Alyssa, our new Archives chair!
i. SAA: Ben would like to continue keeping the armory in good order, and perhaps even get a new door in there someday. He also would prefer not to lose the wrench. If you’re a pledge reading this, call 203-417-2981 for assistance.
3. Dave needs ideas for the ECOM retreat. What?! You haven’t sent him anything yet? Yeah, me neither.

INTERMISSION: The gavel is brought in. Its bearer demands that Mr. Tu wear long pants at the next Brotherhood Meeting. Sweet.

SVP: (See Goals)

MVP: The Pledge Ceremony has been tentatively scheduled for 2/10 at 9pm. Same with BBLB, for 2/24. PRBs will likely be held the week after Spring Break (3/21-3/25). Josh will announce the next pledgemaster this Wednesday. At the time I’m writing this, that’s tomorrow.

FVP: Some upcoming events to note: 2/14—Anti-Valentine’s Day; 2/17—Karaoke Revolution Night; 2/25—RPI vs. Princeton Hockey Game; and 2/28—Casino Night. For more information, check the website, because I’m too lazy to list it all here.

Treasurer: A policy for copy cards is in the works. Also, the transfer of signing power needs to take place, but there are some scheduling problems at the moment.

RecSec: Check out the coolest MOB Chart ever! Also, this is the last call for contact information updates or changes. I’ll be getting around to that brotherhood list at some point over the next couple of weeks.

CorSec: Please see Erica with anything pertaining to newsletters, or any opinions or ideas having to do with the office of CorSec or Rush. Your input is appreciated.

Historian: Brian has been contacted by the composite company, and the day is 4/20. However, due to a testing conflict, he needs a Composite Co-Chair (see the email). If this day presents a problem for you as well, please tell Brian ASAP.

SAA: Please email Ben about any room reservations, listing the 5 W’s along with it. Emphasis on the 2nd W. Also, the idea of giving a semi-emergency key to Jean Purtell and/or Public Safety was discussed.

Old Business:
1. MMOC—Please start talking professors you think might be interested in running. Inform Josh of their responses.
2. Rush—So far so good. Keep up the good attitude…and represent! Social Rush is starting up, so we’ll be encountering some competition. The next round of Door-to-Door is Thursday, 1/25 at 8pm. Again, meet in the office.

New Business:
1. If you have any suggestions with regards to the tsunami relief effort on campus, please speak to Jim.
2. The idea of displaying APO awards at the Community Service Showcase was discussed. A straw poll was conducted, leaning towards using the space towards Rush instead. Results: 6 in favor, 0 opposed, 3 abstaining.
3. Some fellow from Acacia is trying to set up a Halo 2 tournament with APO (all proceeds going to charity), but on very short notice.

Announcements:
1. Yay Basketball Team!
2. Come to the Alaskan BBQ! Wait, that’s out of date…Thanks for coming to the Alaskan BBQ!
3. What’s the best way to defrost frozen meat?

Meeting adjourned at 8:13pm.
