CII 4050
Convened at 7:10 by the President.
Brothers in attendance: Adam, Dave T, Nicole, Alyssa, Chris, Diana, Pat, Emily, Josh, Tommy, Aaron, Shaun, Jim, Kevin W, Darcy, Charlie, JJ, Manit, Teik, Kevin L, Michal
Pledges in attendance: Dave H, Brian, Rothy, Dave K, Kim
Officer Reports:
President:
We have $50 from the section to spend on sending a brother to a leadership workshop. Let Chris know by the next Brotherhood meeting if you are interested in this. There are other various scholarships on the bulletin board in the office.
SVP:
The renewal for our "Adopt a Highway" is due. There has not been much interest for this in the past. It would require us to go one Saturday a semester and clean the two miles of highway. A straw poll was taken and showed limited interest. The matter will be decided at a VP meeting. See upcoming events.
MVP:
The pledge final will be this Wednesday. Alumni and advisors have been contacted about initiations. Nicole and Kim will be rush chairs next semester. See upcoming events.
FVP:
Charlie is looking for an I-Banquet chair. See upcoming events.
Treasurer:
May 5 is the date that graduating seniors will have their CDs closed, they should return their key by then to receive their $10 deposits when their CD is closed. Also that will be the date when signing power will be transferred so newly elected E-Comm officers should be available then. Last semester we lost approximately $950. This semester we have made about $930 and spent about $1,030 a loss of $100.
RecSec:
The Brotherhood List has been updated with the addition of David Nagy and Beth McCooey.
CorrSec:
Send newsletter articles for next weekend.
Historian:
Composites are April 12 at 11:00-12:30 in CII 3112. Please show up a little early in case pictures are running late. If you miss this you will not be in the composite. Send Aaron any pictures you have that you would like included in the scrapbook. Ask Alyssa if you have print pictures that you need scanned before sending to Aaron.
SAA:
Josh reserved 3051 for out meetings next year. The rooms for initiations were also reserved. Keys for next semester will cost $3.60 each and would take 2 days to a week to receive. We would need 4 to cover all the brothers next semester. Josh could use some help brining up items from the Armory room to go to the archives; meet him in the office at 3:00 on Wednesday. Josh will post an inventory of the Armory room in the office after this week's trip with the updated contents.
OM:
JJ will have a signup sheet for office finals for pledges. They will occur during brotherhood week. The new LAF program was installed on the office computer. Please take some time to familiarize yourself with it. There is a like to a test program in an e-mail that Alyssa sent out.
Old Business:
NomCom:
JJ is looking for nominations for officer positions for NomCom to consider.
Budget:
Alyssa proposed the following budget and it was approved.
Advisor: $50
Composite: $0
Historian: $80
MVP: $65
Nationals: $30
OM: $50
PPP: $70
President: $10
Ritual: $100
Rush: $145
SVP: $40
Treasurer: $15
Utilities: $245
Bylaw Amendment:
Alyssa proposed adding the following to the end of Article VII Section 1:
"All Brothers who have not paid all Fraternity dues, or made an acceptable payment arrangement with the Treasurer, by the fourth week of the semester will not be allowed to remain Active. Any Brothers who pay their dues after the fourth week of the semester may obtain active status, however, they may not have a little brother."
It was said that this is important to have in order to fix a firm deadline. This schedule could only overlap BBLB if we had a two week rush and then BBLB two weeks after rush ended. The motion was not upheld.
New Business:
Money for Pins:
After much discussion and fail attempts at a motion, the following standing rule was proposed by Alyssa:
"The chapter will pay for one service pin for each newly inducted brother, all other pins not returned to the chapter in working condition must be paid for by the recipient."
In the past we have not charged bigs for their littles' pledge pin. The ritual budget proposed for next semester was created with this plan in mind. Pins are a mandatory expense and if the next budget did not cover enough pins then the cost will come from the chapter. It costs $88 to purchase and ship 20 pins. This imposed responsibility on brothers and pledges to not lose or break their pins by charging them for replacements.
The standing rule was accepted by the brotherhood.
Rush:
Nicole proposed possible rush events and they were discussed. She wants to concentrate more on service events because more pledges came to service events while most people at fellowship events were not interested in pledging. Any ideas should be sent to Nicole.
Announcements:
* Bigs who don't want to pay for their littles' pledge pin should have it returned to Aaron the night of initiations.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30.
